There is too much confusion around these letters, everyone is trying to get their heads wrapped around it. Also, there is lot of disagreements amongst the community regarding these letters and their expansion and usage.
So, if you get it wrong sometime, don't worry, your intention to learn matters.
Here is an attempt to make it simpler for you
L-Lesbian
Homosexual Female. Meaning, female attracted to female.
G-Gay
Homosexual Male. Meaning, male attracted to male.
B- Bisexual
Bisexual can be attracted to both male and female
T-Trans
Used for Transgenders and Transsexuals
Q-Queer/Questioning
Who are not sure or who are questioning their identity. It is also an umbrella term for everyone who is not 'cis heterosexual or different than society's normal'.
I- Intersex
Who have a mix biological traits of male and female. They have a mix genitalia of male and female body, may have hormones that doesn't match genital or may have XXY chromosome.
A- Asexual/Ally
People who experience no or very little sexual attraction. They are generally romantically attracted to people. Asexuality doesn't mean people don't have sex at all!
A is sometimes also used for Ally, for people who don't belong to the community but are supportive of it.
