All crimes based on sex are crimes of discrimination. The sexual offences have least to do with the sexual attraction, as contrary to what they are considered. They are crimes of power play, often makes the victim feel intimidated, humiliated, and uncomfortable. That is why when these incidents of sexual harassment comes from the acquaintances and closed ones, we are tend to feel even more intimidated and humiliated as these are the people in whom we place our trust. These incidents then just not limit to crimes of sexual offences but breach of trust, an assault on the dignity, emotional distress and they make the victims question themselves about their choices and decisions. Later, more than that, it is how our society and closed ones treat us becomes equally important as the offence itself. Why does it become a matter of dignity and respect? Why does it come to your choices and liberty? Why aren’t we trusted by our own loved ones, this takes a much bigger toll on us than the offence itself.

Unfortunately, roughly 90% of the sexual offences come from acquaintances and people we know. Only 10% of them are committed by strangers. Ironically, most of our approaches, social and legal, are focused towards those 10% of the crimes. Death penalty, stricter punishments, rigid legal process, stigma against legal procedures and inbuilt patriarchy makes it more difficult for the victim to approach, often leaving the victim without any legal and mental discourse.

 

Our goal is to focus on how to make the 90% of the space safe by reaching out to that 90% space which is often overlooked by us. We aim to provide an appropriate forum to deal with sexual offences with the primary focus on mental health care and healing of the victim without going into the legal discourse.
